Chuo ku (Central City), is, as the name suggests, right at the heart of Tokyo, containing the main JR station, bounded on the East by the Sumida river and, on the West the Imperial Palace.  It is home to Ginza, formerly the most expensive shopping area in the country, though now a fading glory as it struggles to compete with the up and coming Omotesando.

Perhaps more importantly, it is also home to the Tsukiji fish market; you will not believe it until you actually see it!  Not surprisingly you will also find some of the best food (not just fish) in the area as well as the tranquil Hama Rikyu Gardens.
