Atop the Asahi Brewery HQ in Asakusa there floats for all to admire the infamous “Golden Turd”.  Purportedly a representation of the fabulous head on a pint of Asahi Gold, it certainly makes a creditable impression of its nickname, though whether it was Philippe Starck’s intention to produce the biggest golden turd of all time or if he was just taking the piss, we shall never know.

Apparently this masterpiece of bullshit is, appropriately, entirely devoid of content, though requiring “submarine technology” whatever that means to maintain its 360 tonne body poised on the Tokyo skyline.

Also featuring in Asakusa, Sensoji (or the Asakusa Kannon Temple), seems to attract every tourist in Tokyo all flocking to buy the usual trinkets and foodstuffs.  A good place to buy tacky souvenirs, "for those that like that sort of thing".
