Villafranca


Villafranca was the end of my first day on the Camino and thus a welcome stop. The Iglesia de Santiago was previously the point where pilgrims who were too weak or ill to continue to Santiago were able to obtain the same indulgences had they continued their pilgrimage. I wondered whether giving up on day one would still qualify me. Managed to find a pleasant enough hotel right in the centre of the town. Nice Plaza with the usual bars and restaurants as well as a number of impressive Romanesque churches and a Parador on the edge of town.
