After the level, mainly road based walk of the first part of this stage from Ponferrada to Cacabelos, the terrain becomes relatively hilly, which is not ideal as the day gets hotter.  I learned to my cost that although the routes signed for pedestrians may be more picturesque, the cyclists route is a lot easier!
