visit to Thimpu would be complete without dropping by "main traffic"
the site of what was once Bhutan's only set of traffic lights.
To their credit, the Bhutanese fairly swiftly decided that traffic
lights were not their thing and reverted to the theatrical and
rather camp, though definitely entertaining, alternative of a
real human traffic policeman. Truth be told, there is little
need for traffic control of any kind on this, Bhutan's one and only
road junction conveying more than two vehicles a week...
Other than that, Thimpu is, like every other
town in the country, something of a non-event, but considering the
population is about the same as a single block in most cities
elsewhere in the world... |
