If
there is one thing you must not miss during your visit to Thimpu,
this is not it. Probably the most boring waste of time you can
imagine. A modern, standardised memorial for whatever it was
you must not forget, you know that bloke, no, I mean that thingy...
The monument itself is equally unmemorable; a
tasteless slab of flaking white painted concrete in the middle of a
roundabout. Frequented entirely by locals performing yet more pointless rituals
("circumambulating" is the relevant euphemism I think) plus groups
of hapless tourists who failed to ask their guide prior to being
dragged along to an event as exciting as an airport check in queue,
exactly what it was that made this concrete lump so worth the
journey and time...given that every minute costs when in Bhutan.
In fact, assuming you can get a full eight
hours sightseeing each day, then this visit costs around $30...keep
driving! |
