Contrary to
the normal structure of this web site, "kaiseki" is not a place...more a
state of mind. Almost anywhere in Japan you can enjoy kaiseki, a banquet, a work of art, the meal
of a lifetime. Regardless of your taste
in food, you will find it hard not to find at least some part of the meal to
be an absolute joy, belying the myth that all Japanese food is raw fish.
Indeed, the phrase "Japanese cuisine" is wholly inadequate to describe
the vast range of styles of food in this intriguing country, a range which I
continue to enjoy exploring. Hence an entire
page dedicated to illustrating just a few examples where I have allowed the
temptation of the food to be slightly marred by the greater temptation of
photographing it. Clearly the current Western fad for artistic
expression through food was not invented in Catalunya or Copenhagen. |
