The Niger river is Mali's lifeblood and nowhere more so than in Mopti.  Here it serves as a transport artery usually deep enough to transport goods and people to Bamako, as a source of water suitable for just about any use, washing cars and clothing, fishing, bathing, fooling around...

A bustling market town with chaotic shops along the waterfront and, most important of all, a very comfortable hotel with a proper restaurant, bar, air conditioning and a swimming pool!  It is also conveniently close to Bandiagara and the Dogon Country.
