If you follow the Derwent Valley all the way to Derby, you will still find any number of mill buildings, albeit mostly either museums or converted to some other use; on this page alone two in Derby itself, the mill at Darley and the silk mill in the city centre.

It has to said that Derby, whatever its merits on other fronts, is most significant for me as the home of the biannual Format Photography Festival.  During this event, semi-derelict buildings, churches and museums host a great variety of interesting photographic works as well as a few "activities".
