The
large artificial island of Odaiba was built on reclaimed land,
connecting a number of the existing defensive islands constructed in
the 19th century. It is connected to Central Tokyo via the
Rainbow Bridge carrying roads and the Yurikamome unmanned railway.
As a recent development beginning towards the
end of the twentieth century, it contains, not surprisingly, some of
the more trivial attractions of its day, including fun fairs, Tokyo
Leisure Land, fake historic villages, Diver City, Sega Joypolis,
Little Hong Kong, replica Statue of Liberty...and a beach where you
are not permitted to bathe.
It also contains some of the world's most
pointless architectural extravagances such as Fuji TV Building and
the Big Sight International Convention Centre. |
