Maybe
I am getting my architectural periods confused (not difficult given the
variations across Europe), but I had always been led to believe that
rounded arches were Romanesque, pointy ones Gothic. According to
Wikipedia, the monastery shown here is Spanish Gothic and the adjacent
Church of San Salvador is pre-Romanesque. Anyway, it is rather
pretty, particularly given its pastoral location, although, as too often
happens, the church itself (with definitely rounded arches) was covered
in scaffolding, so no pictures this time.
Yet
another branch of the Camino de Santiago (with a convenient albergue in
the monastery), although I have included the link to the Camino Frances
just in case you are interested. |
