Ryokuchi Koen
(Ryokuchi Park) lies in a northern suburb of Osaka, easily reached
by the excellent subway system. In addition to the pleasant
enough gardens and statuary, it also houses a craft museum and an
open air vernacular architecture museum.
In the buildings' museum, log fires
are kept burning continuously; the background heat serves to protect
the structure from damp and the smoke is supposed to be a deterrent
to insect pests. It is also one of my favourite smells so
adding to the almost ecstatic pleasure of wandering around these
beautiful and fascinating buildings. |
