Just
as taxation is the price we must pay for a civilised society, so this
elegant engineering structure is the price we must pay for keeping the
lights on. That is, for as long as the idiotic, ill-informed Tory
NIMBYs who can afford to live in the few remaining pretty bits of
England object to anything resembling a sensible energy policy in their
selfish interests to preserve their views of England's green and
pleasant land. I am all for democracy for, as Winston Churchill
once remarked, it is the worst system of government ever
invented...apart from all the others. So in the interests of
providing democratic choice, my proposal is a national referendum on
energy policy:
Question 1: Do you want an electricity supply to your home.
Answer YES or NO. If your answer is NO, skip the next question.
We will send someone round in a little red van to disconnect your supply
tomorrow. Make sure you empty your freezer and find some
alternative way of watching TV in the dark and charging your iPhone.
Question 2: Do you want a wind farm to provide you with a clean
renewable energy source, are prepared to pay what it costs and allow
someone to build it in a sensible location, like where there is wind?
Answer YES or NO. If your answer is NO, then we will start
building one of these right next door to your pristine Oxfordshire
country estate. |
