We arrived in Rabat at the end of a long day from Malaga, including the stress of passing through customs, police, immigration, guides etc at Tanger, just as it was getting dark.  We then proceeded to get lost trying to find our hotel which turned out to be full so were not predisposed to like the place at all, particularly as I tend to dislike capital cities almost on principle.  Dinner was, as expected, over-priced and mediocre hotel fare, but we were too tired to go out.  At least a moment of light relief when we ordered rosé wine and the waitress turned up with one bottle of red and one of white; they had no rosé, but would it be OK to mix these two together?

In the morning I explored on foot and discovered a rather pleasant and hassle-free city with pavement cafes (serving alcohol) and pleasant wide streets, interesting architecture and a fascinating cemetery overlooking the ocean; the sort of place I might well return for its own sake.
