If
the number of artistic opinions ranged against it were a measure of
its architectural merit, then the Duomo di Milano would be an abject
failure of style. However, any who fail to be impressed with
its amazingly light interior or flamboyant Gothic exterior would be
heartless. Any building taking six
hundred years to complete is bound to incorporate a number of
sometimes conflicting styles, but it is a fascinating expression of
the fashions of each age, ranging from early Gothic to Gothic
revival with the odd bit of classical stuff thrown in between.
