Kofuku-ji is listed as
one of the key temple complexes in the Nara UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Although comprising a number of halls and pagodas, it is the five-storied
pagoda which dominates the site and which can be seen from numerous vantage
points in each direction and from a range of distances; perhaps most popular
is that from the pond below which is further enhanced by the dozens of
turtles sitting round or floating lazily to the great amusement of children
and tourists alike.
