A late start from Chinguetti around 16:30, despite plans to start at 14:30...African time. We forgot that Mamou first had to visit all his mates and say goodbye to his family, then go and fill up with diesel, then buy some food, and some cigarettes and then go back and check his oil, then buy some drinks.... We were not particularly bothered, but just wanted to get some distance behind us before it got dark. Eventually managed 16 miles on easy sand (after deflating tyres) before settling at a smooth, sandy area to camp for the night.
