I
have to admit that any religion that not only tolerates, but openly
sanctions high quality booze as one of its tenets should not be
dismissed out of hand. So, whilst I really have my doubts
about Buddhism as a credible belief system, their overt displays of
thirty year old Yamazaki single malt (not to mention what are almost
certainly equally excellent sake vintages) right in front of the
temples, is a welcome material counterbalance to the highly
questionable chanting and other mystic nonsense.
On the other hand, despite Christ's first
miracle being to convert water into wine for party purposes, there
are still some miserable old bastards who contend that alcohol is a
really bad idea for one's health, both spiritual and physical.
On this one, Toshougo wins out for their giving pride of place to
the three monkeys...and a sleeping cat! |
