Santa Maria della Salute

Even if it were no more than a backdrop to the stunning sunset panorama from the Academia Bridge, and the focus of the Grand Canal as it opens up into the lagoon in front of Piazza San Marco, Santa Maria della Salute would be a world class architectural icon. But it is actually a rather impressive building in its own right and, if located somewhere less drowned in staggeringly beautiful architecture, might get rather more attention...which is my excuse for not getting round to going inside...this time!
