San Sebastian, or Donostia, depending on your political inclinations, is one of the most pleasant places I have ever come across, and one I would happily spend the rest of my days.  Unfortunately the rest of the world agrees and, as a consequence, it is one of the most expensive places to live in Europe.  Property prices higher than anywhere else in Spain and everything, food, drink, clothes all very suitably priced for an affluent population.

Great food, whether it be the numerous Michelin starred restaurants, the pintxos bars or whatever.  Wonderful old town with the inevitable plaza, interesting streets and generally lovely places to live, the trendy apartments along the waterfront, the sunshine, the almost perfect beach (La Concha), designer shops (for those that like that kind of thing), a great art scene including the annual film festival, the utterly bizarre boat race...but, sadly the idiot separatists as well, trying to gain freedom from their perfect world?
