San Miniato al Monte

San Miniato al Monte is, as the name suggests, at the top of a hill with a long, hot walk up to it.  However, it is worth the effort, both because it is an "important" church (a great example of a Romanesque basilica), and because once you are at that height, you get a magnificent panoramic view of the city below.  And it is free to visit!

It is also structurally rather interesting, as the roof is held up by massive timber trusses rather than stone vaulting.  Oh yes, and a beautiful mosaic of the saint himself.
