Just
a few random images from the journey between Thimpu and
Punakha to give an idea what the landscape was like. The roads
were atrocious, but mostly compensated for by the magnificent
scenery, mountains, forest, terraced hillsides and perfectly
positioned traditional farmhouses.
Roadside vendors somehow turn up in the most improbable places
selling sweet corn, cheese and various other stuff. The road
over the mountains between the two capitals passes over the Dochu La
with stunning views (unless it is blanketed in cloud), and rather
chilly. Once on the Eastern side it becomes heavily forested
and a much milder climate; I guess that's why they have a summer and
a winter capital. |
