Of course the Guggenheim and so on are also "modern"
architecture in its broadest sense, but I felt they deserved their own
individual pages. This page is a temporary resting place for a few
interesting buildings which I have not yet had sufficient time to document
properly and which may also get their own pages in due course.
Bilbao is certainly worth a visit for anyone
interested in architecture; even without the catalytic effect of the
Guggenheim, there is plenty to see, and since then...
Top row is the Alhondiga which uniquely features
both in the historic architecture section for its original shell by Ricardo
Bastida (1909) as well as its interior remodelling (2010) by Philippe
(Golden Turd) Starck. Next down is the adjacent Bizkaia Plaza Building
(2006) by Soriano & Palacio who are also responsible for the Palacio
Euskalduna. Third row, the Osakidetza Offices by Coll Barreu
which, contrary to its 1980's appearance dates from as recently as 2008.
And lastly, the 2013 San Mames stadium hovering menacingly over the former
shipyards designed by ACXT. |
