At first sight Tadanaga
Miyamoto's Art Museum is rather bland, verging on the industrial.
But when you get closer there are some fascinating details
reflecting those of Matsumoto Castle as well as the traditional
local houses which remain in the merchant quarter. As with
much Japanese architecture it is deceptively simple and, the longer
you look at it, the more you notice not only in the detail, but also
the overall structural composition.
Housing some quite groovy local art works, my main criticism and one
which almost gets the place blacklisted is their ban on photography.
When will these wretched museum owners realise that allowing
visitors to photograph the interior of their impressive buildings,
is not going to lead to a flood of copycat museums springing up all
over the world and just what do they lose if I photograph the
building and post the images here? |
