Liulichang used to be an authentic Chinese street of artisan and
antique shops between the Temple of Heaven and Tiananmen, surrounded
by traditional hutongs. Now becoming increasingly sanitised
with replicas to replace the original buildings, tacky tourist tat
to replace the antiques and H&M ironically purveying mass produced
cheap clothes made in China to replace the old shops which used to
sell cheap handmade clothes made in China...
Still many of the hutongs remain...as do the
stinking public toilets! |
