Despite the continuing excesses of the Planners, Edinburgh remains one of the world's top cities for architecture.  It has everything from medieval, the old town, neo-classical, the so-called New Town and Art Deco.  It even has a few decent modern buildings, although there are some truly execrable bits of 1960's and 1970's stuff which rather spoil the overall impression.  Of course, there are also excellent museums and art galleries (mostly free) as well as culture till it comes out of your ears during the annual International Festival.

The sort of city it would be ideal to live in,  if only it were not so miserably cold for most of the year.
