Say'un, the provincial capital is not really that spectacular, and
by the time we arrived after several days in some quite staggering
landscapes dotted with architectural gems, we were rather punch
drunk and it would have taken a lot to impress us. Having said
that, the following day in Shibam still managed to knock us over...
Say'un does at least have a decent, clean
hotel (with a welcome swimming pool!), though of course no booze,
and a very limited menu, despite advertising itself as four star.
The best bit, apart from the ubiquitous crumbly architecture and the
idiosyncratic palace (both old and new), is the photography museum
with a truly excellent collection of images from the 1930's and
onwards.
As everywhere else, the spelling is
confusing, so depending on your personal preference: Sayun,
Saiyun, Say'un, Seiyun....and probably several other options! |
