Palazzo Pitti

Rather impressive throughout and pretty imposing as you stand in the outer courtyard.  It is one of the few buildings in Florence which has any space around it and lies across the Arno from the older city.

It is probably worth dedicating most of a day to this and the vast Boboli Gardens which lie beyond.  You can buy separate tickets (€13 and €10 respectively) which I opted for simply to save queuing all over again.  There is a quite passable cafeteria in the inner courtyard where you can see and rest in the shade whilst recovering for the next onslaught.
