Apparently named after
the local Sheikh Bugshan, generous sponsor who builds roads, schools and the
sort of thing which you would expect from a legitimate government, but is
sadly absent from most developing countries. Most famous perhaps for
the surreal Khailat Palace Hotel, built with a view to the local fashion for
pastel shades of wall colouring, but on a rather more impressive scale.
Part of a long day's drive from Mukalla on the coast, to Say'un in Wadi
Hadramawt; next time I would allow at least a couple of days with a night at
the fantasy hotel to give more time to visit the villages all along the
Wadi, including the "Osama Bin Laden" village |
