Fire Festival

Somewhat surprisingly this misguided attempt at mass suicide was not confined to young male bloods, but parents carrying infants and even mothers with babies wrapped in shawls.  Whilst the infants looked worried and slightly singed in some cases it was clear that just about everybody was having a whale of a time.  I did not actually see anyone fall into the fire, although even just standing at a discrete distance taking photos I could feel the strength of the flames on my face.

Fortunately the Bhutanese health service is universally available free of charge...although you would probably be dead by the time you reached the nearest hospital over a day's drive away!
