Probably a (successful) attempt to compete with Nottingham's other tasteless urban rejuvenation projects, a 2009 art gallery in one of the prime spots right on the edge of the Lace Market, generally considered to be the pretty bit (cobbled streets, reasonable old buildings).  It was some time after completion that many of us realised that what appear to be slabs of fibreboard which we had mistaken for the construction hoardings, were in fact the finished building.  It somehow manages to combine the supermarket service entrance chic with arty (£20 million) budget; even inside it looks like a poorly renovated warehouse with a standard of finish and a choice of materials reminiscent of a multi-storey car park.

And the exhibits, don't get me started on the exhibits!  Last time it was some Iranian feminist with paintings of men taking a dump...and children decorating a Christmas tree with faeces...
